Reporter: What are the areas affected by this precipitation process? How to follow up?

Expert: For the northern region, this rainy and snowy weather process is the one with the largest impact range since this winter. On December 15, snow or sleet occurred in central and western Inner Mongolia, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Shanxi, northern Henan, and the Yili valley in Xinjiang, along the Tianshan Mountains, and in central Tibet. Local, northern Henan, and other places have a snowfall of 5 to 8 mm; the average snowfall in Beijing is 4.4 mm, and the average snowfall in urban areas is 3.7 mm.

It is expected that on the 16th, Northeast China will relay North China and become a major snowfall household. The Central Meteorological Observatory continued to issue a blizzard blue warning on the 16th. It is estimated that there will be heavy snowfall in central and southern Heilongjiang, most of Jilin, northern and eastern Liaoning, and other places from 14:00 to 14:00 on the 16th. There will be heavy snow and snowfall in parts of southern Heilongjiang, central and eastern Jilin, and northeastern Liaoning. Up to 10 to 14 millimeters; the snow depth in the above areas is generally 3 to 5 cm, and the local area is more than 8 cm. Snowfall in the Northeast will gradually come to an end on the morning of the 17th.

It is estimated that from 16 to 22, there will be light to moderate rain and local heavy rain in the eastern part of the southwest, Jianghan, Jianghuai, most of southern Jiangnan, northern and southern China, and the meteorological arid regions will usher in "thirst quenching rain".

Reporter: Why is this snowfall “wet”?

Expert: One of the characteristics of this snowfall process is mainly wet snow. Due to the rapid rise in temperature in the central and eastern regions of China during this period, the temperature in the lower layers is relatively high, which is near the critical snowfall temperature. Therefore, the phase of precipitation in some areas is relatively complicated. For example, during the snowfall process, there are sleet periods, and even the process of rain, sleet and snow mutual transformation occurs. For example, the night temperature of Beijing City from 5 to 16 on the 16th, the temperature has been between 0.5 and 1 ℃, after 5:00 the temperature is still above -1 ℃, the temperature near the ground is generally high, making the depth of snow affected.

Reporter: What are the difficulties in forecasting this snowfall process?

Expert: There are two difficulties in forecasting. One is that it is difficult to know when the snowfall will start. Because the short-wave system and the warm and humid airflow arrive in Beijing, it is difficult to predict, and precipitation usually occurs at the intersection of heating and cooling currents, so it is difficult to predict the start of snowfall.

The other is that the precipitation phase is more complicated this time. Because the temperature in the entire central and eastern regions rose rapidly before snowfall, precipitation of different phases may occur on the same day. For example, precipitation in different phases such as rain, sleet, and snow appeared in central Hebei, Tianjin, and Liaoning, which brought difficulties to precipitation prediction.

Reporter: What tips do you have for the heavy fog, wind and temperature brought by this snowfall process?

Experts: Snowfall may bring hidden dangers to transportation. After snowfall, the road surface is slippery, visibility is poor, and snow accumulation and road icing may occur. It is recommended that relevant departments take measures in advance. Snow cover may collapse and damage facility agriculture, garden trees, etc., so you need to take precautions. The temperature drops after snowfall. It is recommended that the urban heating, power supply, gas supply and other departments strengthen their attention. At the same time, the public is advised to pay attention to cold and warmth to prevent colds. In addition, coal-fired residents need to pay special attention to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. During the night of the 16th to the 17th, the wind is strong during the day. Please pay attention to wind and fire prevention, and strengthen the reinforcement of outdoor structures and outdoor safety protection.

The reporter learned that, in response to the snowfall weather process, the meteorological department, while actively doing the forecast and early warning service, seized the opportunity of favorable weather and organized the artificial rainfall (snow) operation, which effectively alleviated the early drought in many places and reduced Forest fire danger weather rating.

In Henan, the Provincial Meteorological Bureau organized an aircraft and ground artificial rainfall enhancement operation on December 15. Under the combined action of natural precipitation and artificial rainfall enhancement, light rain and snow weather occurred in most areas north of the Huaihe River in the province. According to the meteorological monitoring data, light rain mainly occurred between Huanghuai and Henan Provinces from 17:00 on the 14th to 7:00 on the 16th, and sleet appeared in parts of the north of the Yellow River. Among them, 2.7mm and 1.2mm pure snow appeared in Anyang and Linzhou, The province's average precipitation is 5.5 mm.

In Rizhao, Shandong, the Municipal People's Shadow Office successfully carried out artificial rainfall enhancement operations throughout the city from the night of the 15th to the 16th. The city's average rainfall was 4.7 millimeters, which alleviated the drought to a certain extent and was beneficial to the wintering of winter crops.

In Mizhi, Shaanxi, the County Weather Modification Office implemented snow enhancement operations on the afternoon of the 15th. This snow enhancement has played a positive role in alleviating the current drought and increasing air humidity.
